I just graduated from UConn and can tell you, first hand, that facebook runs in the background of probably two-thirds of the computers belonging to the undergraduate student body (and that's probably a conservative estimate). With the undergrad student population on the cusp of 16,000, that's a good amount of people that could be reached with the proper campaign. The great thing about facebook is that it is just as popular at every college campus in America and has opened its doors to anyone with a valid e-mail address. What's special about the facebook community, though, is that its membership is comprised almost entirely of people under the age of 25 and in many cases, younger than that (my sister, who is about to graduate highschool, has had a facebook profile for roughly 2 years now). With a social media avenue like that being so readily offered, it enables a youthful, consumer product driven age bracket to be targeted for not only product promotion but extensive discussion in a vastly open forum. Its a PR dream machine.

Hi Valorie -- Facebook is really an amazing place to get connected. Each new friend I invite in is surprisingly amazed at how it connects and re-connects our network on a daily basis on both a professional (and oddly enough) on a human level -- allowing professional relationships to see a little more of the personal self online through "digital expression" (personal likes in music, tv, etc.) All great "conversational" elements that connect on a human level. Great post. Love your blog. I'll see you on Facebook!
